The training facilities at Whitley Farm are unequalled in the southwest. The yard and farmhouse are set in 55 acres of picturesque farmland, surrounded by miles of woodland tracks and quiet country lanes, allowing for plenty of variety during the all-important roadwork phase of training.

THE SWIMMING POOL

The 50' x 180' swimming pool building houses ten 12' x 15' indoor stables, horse walker, weighbridge, solarium, wash room, feed room and store, tack room, pump room and the 36m equine swimming pool.

All horses in training use the swimming pool, which provides excellent cardiovascular conditioning. Swimming against the jet propelled current gives the horses a strenuous workout, developing an even musculature and fitness without putting any strain on the joints or subjecting the legs to concussion. Any competition horse with a tendon or ligament injury which is likely to recur can use swimming as a way of reducing the fast work necessary to return to peak fitness. Likewise, a gentle swim without the current is a valuable tool for the rehabilitation of convalescing horses.
